On being a host mom
Julia and I are welcoming a 15-year-old German girl into our home this week. We've completely rearranged parts of our house (all three bedrooms) and I've read as much as I could find from other families who have hosted. Some of what I've read has been helpful, but I know what I read from families who hosted kids from very different countries won't always be applicable to us. I'm both nervous and excited. It's a lot of responsibility, especially as a single mom, to take on the care of another child for a full school year. I hope and pray we all get along and the natural valleys that will happen will be short and easily traversed.
